Gamma Globulin details
Description
Gamma globulin is the protein fraction on an electrophoresis test that contains most of your immunoglobulins (antibodies) โ IgG, IgA, and IgM together. Elevated gamma globulin can reflect chronic infection, chronic inflammation, autoimmune disease, or certain blood disorders involving abnormal antibody-producing cells (like multiple myeloma, which often shows a distinctive sharp 'spike' within this fraction rather than a broad elevation). Low gamma globulin can suggest an immune deficiency affecting antibody production. As with other electrophoresis fractions, it's interpreted as part of the overall protein pattern.
