Description
Chromatin antibodies (sometimes called anti-nucleosome antibodies) are autoantibodies that target chromatin — the combination of DNA and proteins found inside your cells' nuclei. They're associated with lupus and, compared to some other lupus-related antibodies, may appear earlier in the disease course and correlate with disease activity, including a possible association with lupus nephritis (kidney involvement). They're typically tested as part of a broader autoimmune antibody panel alongside ANA, anti-dsDNA, and other lupus-associated antibodies, rather than as a standalone test, and are interpreted together with symptoms and other lab findings.
