Description

This test measures IgE antibodies specific to wheat proteins, used to check for a wheat allergy — an immune, allergic reaction distinct from celiac disease (an autoimmune reaction to gluten) and from non-celiac gluten sensitivity, both of which involve different underlying mechanisms and aren't detected by this IgE-based test. A positive result, combined with a history of reactions after eating wheat-containing foods, supports a wheat allergy diagnosis, which, unlike celiac disease, some children eventually outgrow.
