Melanocyte-Stimulating Hormone (MSH) details
Description
Melanocyte-stimulating hormone (MSH) is produced in the pituitary gland and hypothalamus, and its best-known role is stimulating melanin production in skin pigment cells, but research has increasingly recognized broader roles in appetite regulation, energy balance, and inflammation control. Testing MSH is uncommon in routine clinical practice and is used mainly in specialized or research contexts, including some evaluations related to chronic inflammatory illness or pituitary function, rather than as a standard screening test.
