Description
Deamidated gliadin peptide (DGP) IgA is an antibody used to help screen for celiac disease, an autoimmune reaction to gluten that damages the small intestine. It's a somewhat more specialized celiac marker than the standard tissue transglutaminase (tTG) test, and is particularly useful in young children, whose immune systems don't always produce a strong tTG-IgA response, and in situations where tTG results are borderline or don't match the clinical picture. As with other celiac antibody tests, an accurate result depends on continuing to eat gluten leading up to the test, since a gluten-free diet can cause these antibodies to normalize even if celiac disease is present.
