Vitamin B6 details
Description
Vitamin B6 (pyridoxine) is involved in amino acid metabolism, red blood cell production, and nervous system function, and it also plays a supporting role in homocysteine regulation alongside B12 and folate. Deficiency can occur with poor diet, alcohol use, certain medications (including some used for tuberculosis or seizures), or kidney disease, and can cause nerve symptoms (numbness or tingling), skin changes, and anemia. Interestingly, both deficiency and excessive long-term high-dose supplementation of B6 can cause nerve-related symptoms, so results are interpreted with this in mind.
