Description
Thyrotropin receptor antibodies (TRAb) are autoantibodies that bind to the TSH receptor on thyroid cells, and depending on the specific antibody, they can either stimulate the thyroid (as in Graves' disease, causing overactivity) or, less commonly, block it. This broader test detects TSH receptor antibodies generally, without necessarily distinguishing stimulating from blocking activity the way a specific TSI test does, and it's used to help diagnose Graves' disease and certain other thyroid conditions where receptor-targeting antibodies are suspected.
