Description
Prostatic acid phosphatase (PAP) is an older prostate-related tumor marker that was more commonly used before PSA testing became the standard, and it's now used far less often, having been largely replaced by PSA for both screening discussions and monitoring due to PSA's generally better performance. PAP is still occasionally used in specific, more advanced prostate cancer monitoring contexts, sometimes alongside PSA, though it's no longer a routine first-line test.
