Pre-Albumin details
Description
Pre-albumin (also called transthyretin) is a protein made by the liver that, because it has a much shorter half-life than albumin (about 2 days versus about 20 days), reflects your recent nutritional and protein status โ useful for detecting changes over days rather than the weeks it takes standard albumin to shift. It's used in certain clinical settings, like hospitals or nutrition monitoring programs, to track short-term nutritional status and response to nutritional support, though โ like albumin โ it can also be affected by inflammation and illness independent of true nutritional intake.
