Description
Myeloperoxidase antibodies (also called p-ANCA/MPO antibodies) are autoantibodies associated with certain forms of vasculitis, a group of conditions involving inflammation of blood vessels, most notably microscopic polyangiitis and some cases of eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (formerly Churg-Strauss syndrome). These conditions can affect the kidneys, lungs, nerves, and other organs, so a positive result in someone with suggestive symptoms (like unexplained kidney problems, lung issues, or nerve symptoms) prompts further evaluation for an underlying vasculitis.
