Chlamydia pneumoniae IgG details
Description
This antibody indicates past or ongoing exposure to Chlamydia pneumoniae, a bacterium (distinct from the sexually transmitted Chlamydia trachomatis) that commonly causes mild to moderate respiratory infections, including bronchitis, pneumonia, and sometimes prolonged cough. Because IgG antibodies typically persist long after an infection has cleared, a positive result mainly indicates that you've been exposed to this bacterium at some point, rather than necessarily reflecting a current, active infection โ for that, IgM antibodies or direct detection methods (like PCR testing) are more useful. C. pneumoniae has also been studied for a possible, though not firmly established, association with cardiovascular disease.
