Description
ZnT8 antibodies are autoantibodies that target a zinc transporter protein found in insulin-producing pancreatic cells. Along with GAD-65, IA-2, and insulin autoantibodies, ZnT8 antibodies are used as part of a panel to help diagnose type 1 diabetes and confirm an autoimmune process is driving it, and testing multiple autoantibodies together improves the overall likelihood of correctly identifying autoimmune (type 1) diabetes, particularly useful when the distinction from type 2 diabetes isn't clear from clinical presentation alone.
