Description
Scl-70 (also called anti-topoisomerase I) antibodies are autoantibodies strongly associated with diffuse systemic sclerosis (scleroderma), the more widespread and generally more severe form of the disease, which — unlike the limited form associated with centromere antibodies — can more significantly affect internal organs, including the lungs and heart, in addition to the skin. A positive result, particularly combined with suggestive symptoms like Raynaud's phenomenon and widespread skin thickening, supports this diagnosis and often prompts closer monitoring for lung and heart involvement.
