PLAC Test (Lp-PLA2) details
Description
The PLAC test measures Lp-PLA2, an enzyme linked to inflammation specifically within artery walls, produced by certain white blood cells involved in plaque formation. Unlike more general inflammatory markers like CRP, Lp-PLA2 is thought to reflect inflammation more specific to the blood vessels themselves, and it's used as an additional marker to help refine cardiovascular risk assessment, particularly in people whose risk based on standard factors alone is unclear or borderline.
