Description
The 'nil' value is a baseline control result used in certain specialized blood tests, such as TB blood tests (QuantiFERON-TB) or specific allergy testing, representing the result with no stimulating antigen added. It's used as a reference point to properly interpret the other values in the same test — for example, confirming that a positive-looking result in the stimulated samples is a real response above baseline, rather than a false signal, and that the nil value itself isn't unexpectedly high, which could suggest a lab or sample handling issue.
