% Macroprolactin details

This measures the percentage of your prolactin that exists in a large, less biologically active form called macroprolactin, as opposed to the smaller, fully active monomeric form. Because macroprolactin is measured along with active prolactin in a standard prolactin test but doesn't have the same biological effects, a high percentage of macroprolactin can make a total prolactin result look falsely elevated. This test helps clarify whether an elevated prolactin level is clinically meaningful (driven mainly by active prolactin) or largely explained by macroprolactin, which generally doesn't require the same treatment or workup.
