Description

LD isoenzyme 2 is a specific form of lactate dehydrogenase found predominantly in the immune system's white blood cells and red blood cells. Along with LD isoenzyme 1, it was historically used, particularly via the LD1/LD2 ratio, to help identify heart muscle damage or red blood cell breakdown, though this approach has largely been replaced in modern practice by more specific tests like troponin for cardiac injury.
