Description
IGF binding protein 3 (IGFBP-3) is the main carrier protein for IGF-1 in the bloodstream, and it's often tested alongside IGF-1 to provide a fuller picture when evaluating growth hormone-related conditions, since IGFBP-3 levels are also influenced by GH activity and nutritional status. It can add useful information in ambiguous cases or help account for situations where IGF-1 alone might be affected by factors like malnutrition or liver disease, independent of actual growth hormone levels.
