Human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) is a very common virus, and most people are infected during early childhood, typically causing roseola (a mild illness with fever followed by a rash) or sometimes no noticeable symptoms at all. This IgG antibody test indicates past exposure, and — like other herpesviruses — HHV-6 remains dormant in the body for life after initial infection, with reactivation occasionally relevant in people with significantly weakened immune systems, such as transplant recipients, where it's sometimes monitored more closely.
