Description

This test screens for antibodies to HIV-2, a form of HIV that's less common than HIV-1 and found predominantly in West Africa, though cases occur elsewhere as well. HIV-2 generally progresses more slowly than HIV-1, but the two require different considerations for testing and treatment, so combination HIV screening tests typically check for both types together to ensure either is detected, followed by confirmatory testing that can distinguish between them if a result is positive.
