Free PSA details
Description
Free PSA measures the portion of prostate-specific antigen circulating unbound to blood proteins, and — together with total PSA, used to calculate the % free PSA ratio — it helps refine prostate cancer risk assessment when total PSA results fall in a borderline range. It's typically ordered as a follow-up test rather than as an initial screening test, to help decide whether a biopsy or further evaluation is warranted after an elevated or ambiguous total PSA result.
