Description
Anti-double-stranded DNA (anti-dsDNA) antibodies are autoantibodies that specifically target your own DNA, and they're highly specific for lupus — meaning a positive result strongly supports the diagnosis, especially when combined with a positive ANA and suggestive symptoms. Anti-dsDNA levels often rise and fall with lupus disease activity, particularly correlating with kidney involvement (lupus nephritis), which makes this test useful not just for diagnosis but for monitoring flares and treatment response over time in someone already diagnosed.
