This is a simpler version of the hCG pregnancy test that reports only whether the pregnancy hormone hCG is present in your blood above a certain threshold — a positive or negative result — rather than measuring its exact concentration. It's typically used simply to confirm or rule out pregnancy, similar in principle to a home urine pregnancy test but generally more sensitive and able to detect pregnancy slightly earlier. When more detail is needed — for example, to monitor how a pregnancy is progressing or investigate a possible miscarriage or ectopic pregnancy — the quantitative version of this test, which reports an exact number, is used instead.
