Anti-CCP IgG details
Description
Anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) IgG is the standard, most clinically used form of this antibody test, and it's one of the most specific markers available for rheumatoid arthritis. A positive result can appear years before joint symptoms develop, and โ combined with clinical findings โ supports an earlier, more confident diagnosis than relying on rheumatoid factor alone, which is less specific and also positive in various other conditions. Anti-CCP positivity is also linked to a higher likelihood of more aggressive, erosive joint damage over time, which can influence how proactively a rheumatologist approaches treatment. It's typically ordered alongside rheumatoid factor and inflammatory markers like ESR or CRP when rheumatoid arthritis is suspected.
