Anti-CCP IgA details

Anti-cyclic citrullinated peptide (anti-CCP) antibodies are autoantibodies strongly associated with rheumatoid arthritis, and this test can be positive even before joint symptoms fully develop, making it useful for early diagnosis. The IgA subtype is tested less routinely than IgG, but can add information in certain cases, particularly alongside rheumatoid factor and clinical joint findings. A positive anti-CCP result, combined with typical symptoms, supports a rheumatoid arthritis diagnosis and can also carry some prognostic value, since positive results are associated with a more erosive disease course. Unlike rheumatoid factor, anti-CCP is fairly specific to rheumatoid arthritis and less likely to be positive in other conditions.
